--- Begin Message --- I am writing to you to ask for your assistance in spreading information to the membership of the International <x-tad-bigger> </x-tad-bigger><x-tad-bigger>L’Association des Microbiologistes du Québec</x-tad-bigger> about three important professional education programs of the National Foundation for Infectious Diseases (NFID).

1. The Annual Conference on Antimicrobial Resistance will be held in June 2005 in Bethesda, Maryland, USA.

The conference objectives are to:

• Discuss the science, prevention, and control of antimicrobial resistance
• Define issues and potential solutions to the problem of antimicrobial resistance

The preliminary conference program will call for both plenary and concurrent sessions. Abstracts from the field are being solicited, and it is anticipated that there will be a number of papers submitted on product development and clinical and field studies. Continuing medical education (CME) credit is offered for this program. Detailed conference information, on-line abstract submission, and registration will be available on the NFID web site (www.nfid.org) by mid-October. Information about this past year's conference is available at www.nfid.org/conferences/resistance04

2. Each year NFID sponsors an infectious diseases clinical course. The 2005 course, entitled “Infectious Diseases: A Course for Clinicians,” will be co-sponsored by NFID, the University of Hawaii, and the Cleveland Clinic Foundation.

The 2005 course will be held February 18-20, 2005 at the Hilton Hawaiian Village Beach Resort and the Queens Conference Center, Honolulu, Hawaii. It will be specifically designed for primary care physicians (internists, pediatricians, family practitioners, and infectious disease physicians) and other health care providers, such as emergency care providers, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, pharmacists, public health specialists, and clinical microbiologists, interested in the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of important infectious disease syndromes. The course faculty will draw heavily on the clinical expertise of physicians at the Cleveland Clinic and the University of Hawaii as well as other institutions nationwide, and on the epidemiologic expertise of physicians at the CDC and NFID. The faculty will present the latest information on currently available therapeutic agents, as well as promising therapeutic agents under investigation. Interactive clinical case presentations, a highly popular feature of all of NFID’s infectious diseases courses, will again be an integral part of the learning curriculum.

The preliminary program calls for major plenary themes as follows:
• Updates in Common Infectious Diseases
• Developments in Management of Infections
• National and International Influences
• The Scene in Hawaii
• Practice Issues and Innovations
• The Future

3. The Eighth Annual Conference on Vaccine Research will be held in May 9-11, 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

The conference serves as an annual forum for presenting and discussing the latest vaccine-related scientific data, results, and issues via symposia and panel discussions by expert faculty and through oral and poster presentations of submitted papers. The goal is to encourage communication among vaccine researchers and developers, public health officials, and medical personnel who administer vaccines. Continuing medical education (CME) credit is offered for this program.

NFID is requesting your assistance in reaching your members. The most expeditious manner for this to occur would be for us to receive electronically postal e-mail addresses for your group and any other interested parties that you know of in Australia. NFID will provide call for abstract and program information to them. Alternatively, placing this information on your web site's calendar or other means you have of reaching interested parties would be extremely helpful.

Many thanks for your consideration of this request. I look forward to hearing from you.
